Local Scholarships

2016 Local Scholarships

All applications are due no later than May 13th. Please read each application for due dates as individual scholarships may have different due dates.
 

Gloucester City Business Association Award...$250 Scholarship.  $125 to 1 boy and 1 girl.  Committee consideration – letter of recommendation required.  Student must have interest in business or trade school.


Jim Kelly Memorial Scholarship…To be eligible you must be a graduate from Gloucester City High School and rank in the upper half of your class.  You must be recommended to the selecting committee by the varsity baseball coach and have been a member of the varsity baseball team.  You must be accepted by an accredited school of higher learning. 


Earl M. Moore Award...$250 Scholarship.  To be eligible you must graduate from Gloucester City High School.  You must be recommended to the committee by the varsity baseball or softball coach and must have been a member of the varsity baseball or softball team.  You must be accepted by an accredited school of higher learning. 


Collingswood Cloud Lodge Scholarship…$500 Award.  A senior student who shows dedication to school and community and displays good character.   No Application.


Henry B. Evans Memorial Vocational Scholarship…$1000 Award.  Given by the Gloucester City Rotary Club Scholarship Committee. 


Sportsmen Athletic Club Scholarship...Scholarship/Grant-in-Aid.  To be eligible students must graduate from Gloucester City High School, rank in the top half of the class, be accepted by an accredited school of higher learning, be a varsity letter winner in at least two sports in their senior year. 


Louis D. Stief Memorial Scholarship…$500 Scholarship.  Amount for one year to a student displaying academic and extra-curricular excellence.  You must be in the top 1/5 of class and an essay is required


Gloucester City Education Association Scholarship...2 -$500 Scholarship to 1 boy and 1 girl.  Must graduate from Gloucester City High School in the upper half of the class and be accepted to a 4yr College and Major in Education. 


William W. Yerkes, Sr. Memorial Award…$200 Grant-in-Aid.  Must graduate from Gloucester City High School, rank in the upper half of your class, and be accepted by an accredited school of higher learning.  You must also have actively participated in athletics. 


Dorothy R. Sasse Memorial Scholarship – No application required.


Gloucester City Ponytail League Scholarship...$250 Scholarship.  To a softball player who has participated in the Gloucester City Ponytail League.  You must attend a 2 or 4 year college.  Class rank and G.P.A. are factors.


Firefighter Thomas G. Stewart III Memorial Scholarship c/o The Gloucester City Professional Firefighters Union...$500 Scholarship.  Should have an interest in fire service, emergency medical services or a related career. 


Chief Charles A. Harker Memorial Scholarship...$500 Scholarship.  Must be a Gloucester Resident and be active in community service.  Must have shown dedication and service to school. 


Gloucester City High School Alumni Association Scholarships...For Boys/Girls who display good character, devoted concern and love for his/her school and classmates.  Must be accepted by a two or four year institution. 


Mary Ellen Kraft Scholarship...$1,000 Scholarship.  A female in the top half of class that must be entering a post-secondary institution pursuing a career in the field of education.  Must have actively participated in community service and/or athletics and show financial need.  Essay is required. 


Mark G. McCourt Memorial Scholarship Engine #521... $521 Scholarship.  Given by Pine Grove Fire Association Station 52.  One award to a deserving graduate with community/civic involvement.  Must be a resident of Gloucester City. 


Highland Park Volunteer Fire Association Scholarship: $1250 in Scholarships.  Students with community/civic involvement.  Must be a resident of Gloucester City.   


AFSCME Local #3858…Senior who plans to attend a trade school or vocational school. 


Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians…Graduating senior, who displays good character, and active in the community who plans to attend a 2 or 4 year college.  No Application.


William Winegardner Memorial Scholarship – (Gloucester City Soccer League Scholarship)...Senior interested in applying write short essay explaining their community involvement, their experience with Youth Soccer and how the scholarship money will be used.


David Martin Memorial Scholarship…A senior who has at least one varsity letter and will attend either a 2 or 4 year college or trade school.   


Ferry Family Memorial Scholarship…Graduating senior who displays good character, devoted concern and love for his/her school and classmates.  Must be accepted to a 2 or 4 year institution.   


Joanne Gorman Memorial Scholarship…Graduating Senior who has contributed to his/her school and community. No Application


Marc Ryan Memorial Scholarship… A Scholarship given to a senior who has at least one varsity letter and who will attend either a 2 or 4 year college or trade school.  


Harry Boulden Memorial Scholarship…$500 Scholarship.  To a senior girl who has at least one varsity letter and who will attend a 2 or 4 year college or trade school.   


Heroes to Hero Scholarship…$1,000 Scholarship.  You must graduate from Gloucester City High School and be ranked in the top half of the class.  Student should be committed to furthering his/her education in the field of Fire Science, Criminal Law, Forensic Science, or a Medical/Nursing Field.  Must show proof of volunteerism, community involvement and/or civic outreach.  Must be accepted to an accredited school of higher education.  Recipient will be required to attend our separate “Scholarship Winner Luncheon” and is asked to participate in our Annual Heroes to Hero 5K Run/Walk if schedule permits.    


Gloucester City Basketball League (C.P.B.L.): …Up to $300 Award(s).  Must be a varsity basketball player this past season.  Student in good standing.  Must continue your education to the next level.  


Knights of Columbus…Graduating Senior who displays good character, active in community, plans to attend a 2 or 4 year college.   


Mark Zieminski Memorial Scholarship- $300.00 Scholarship.  To a senior who has at least one varsity letter and who will attend either a 2 or 4 year college or trade school.


Michael Reeves Scholarship…To a graduating senior who shows school or community involvement through volunteering or sports. 


Memorial A.A. – No application required.


Mary Shade Gacek Memorial Scholarship: $250. 00 award for one year to a student who exemplifies academic excellence. 


James “Zonk” Rodgers Memorial Scholarship – No application required.


Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship, No application required.


Ad-Youth Scholarship-Vocational School… Active in community service and planning on studying engineering or any field relating to home construction. 


S. Martin Jr. Award for Dedication to Art Excellence:   A $250 scholarship given to a senior who is continuing his/her education in the Art field.   No application required.


Matthew Kuhn Scholarship given by Brooklawn Little LeagueThis $500 award given to a senior who best illustrates the characteristics of the development of qualities of teamwork, discipline and citizenship through a foundation of character, courage and loyalty. Must have been involved with Brooklawn Little League.


Caroline J. Howarth Memorial ScholarshipA scholarship given to a senior that displays academic and extra-curricular excellence.  Must submit a short essay on yourself including your interests, scholastic achievements, and extra-curricular activities.


Elsie Perkins Memorial Scholarship:  No application


Robert S. Pye, Sr. Memorial Scholarship:  This $500 award is given to a senior who is in the top 25% of the class and who will be attending Rutgers University in the fall.  Student should display a strong work ethic by pursuing excellence in academics and extra-curricular activities.  Must submit and essay on how they feel attending Rutgers will help them achieve their long-term goals.


Tom MacAdams Memorial Scholarship:  This $250 award is given by the family to an individual who displays empathy, kindness and good will towards others and who seeks to help the disadvantage.


A.C.E.S./Tom MacAdam's Memorial Scholarship:  This $100 award is given by the Brooklawn School District.  Student must be an Alice Costello Elementary School graduate and a Brooklawn resident and Male Varsity Athlete.


Gloucester City Little League Scholarship:  (2) $125.00 award to a varsity baseball player who played at least one year of City League.  Must submit an essay on how Little League helped them achieve teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship.


The Light Family Softball Scholarship: No application


Nicole Sloan Wagner Memorial Scholarship:  This $250.00 award is given by family.  Student must be an Alice Costello School graduate and Brooklawn residentMust submit a 500 word essay on “How volunteerism affects society”. 


William J. Labbree Memorial ScholarshipThis $250.00 award is given by the family. Must be involved in community services.


Identity Gear ScholarshipThis $500.00 scholarship is awarded to a young woman entrepreneur, self-starter with the community involvement, is interested in business and technology and going on to a 2 or 4 year college.


Andrew J. Carlin Memorial ScholarshipThis $1000.00 scholarship is given to a student who will be furthering their education both with a Technical school/college and preferably to a student who exhibits financial need.


Andrew J. Carlin Memorial Music ScholarshipThis $1000.00 scholarship is given to a student who has been involved with music here in GHS, whether it being with Chorus, band, drama, Musical, etc.
